New York's Morgan Library & Museum announced on February 25, 2011 the appointment of Linda Wolk-Simon as its new Charles W. Englehard Curator and Head of the Department of Drawings and Prints. Responsible for an ever-growing collection of some 25, 000 works on paper from the 14th Century to the present, she assumes her new positions in May 2011.

Linda Wolk-Simon received her Ph.D. in the History of Art from the University of Michigan. She joined the staff of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1986. There she distinguished herself as a curator in the Robert Lehman Collection, a coordinator of the institution's World War II-era Provenance Research Project and most recently Curator of Drawings and Prints. A specialist in Italian Renaissance art and a recognized authority on Raphael (1483-1520) and his followers, Dr. Wolk-Simon was for many years Reviews Editor of Master Drawings, a scholarly journal headquartered at the Morgan.

A Fulbright Grant recipient, Wolk-Simon was awarded a Kress Fellowship at the National Gallery of Art's Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts. The remarkable scholar, prolific author and dynamic lecturer in the United States and abroad organized and co-curated numerous popular special exhibitions, amongst them Raphael at the Metropolitan: The Colonna Altarpiece (2006), Art and Love in Renaissance Italy (2008-09) and An Italian Journey: Drawings from the Tobey Collection, Correggio to Tiepolo (2010).

The Morgan will begin to search for a curator of its Dutch and Flemish drawings collection upon Linda Wolk-Simon's arrival. She will inaugurate a long-range program of international loan shows of Old Master drawings, beginning with the first-ever monographic presentation of the drawings of Italian painter, draftsman and satirical poet Salvator Rosa (1615-1673). Dr. Wolk-Simon will also organize a number of focused exhibitions on individual masterpieces and small groups of important works in the Morgan's collection supplemented by a few key loans. Rotating installations of selected drawings and prints from the Morgan's rich and varied holdings will commence. And thematic presentations bringing together various works from different curatorial divisions will be on view.

William M. Griswold, Director of the Morgan Library & Museum, said, "I am delighted that Linda Wolk-Simon will join the Morgan's team of outstanding curators. Linda has laid out a compelling vision for the future of one of the most important of the Morgan's collections. She is noted in the field for the vitality of her exhibitions and the excellence of her scholarship."
